Former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan is "fit and fine" in Adiala Jail, according to sources close to Dr Uzma Khan, one of his sisters who met him in the prison earlier today, reports CNN-News18.
Briefing reporters about his condition outside the jail, she said, "Alhamdulillah (praise be to God), he is all right… but he was angry about being mentally tortured. He is locked in his cell all day… can only step out for short periods and is not allowed to communicate with anyone."
She added that Imran Khan had directly blamed Pakistan Army chief General Asim Munir, who has become the most powerful figure in the country after taking control of the military, for keeping him behind bars.
CNN-News18 quoted sources saying that Khan was "in high morale" in the jail, and was upset over jail administration issues, which he conveyed during the meeting with Uzma.
Uzma, along with several PTI supporters, entered Adiala Jail and met former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan.
She said she was “happy to finally receive permission for the meeting” and told reporters that she would speak to the media after leaving the jail.
Her visit took place as PTI supporters continue to protest and demand information about Imran Khan’s condition and whereabouts. Khan has been in prison since August 2023 after being convicted in a corruption case.
The Pakistan government earlier granted permission to Dr Uzma Khanum amid speculations over his health and family members raising suspicion over the jail authorities denying permission to meet him for over three weeks.
Intelligence reports indicated that the Pakistan government “acted out of fear" because of “rising anger over Imran Khan’s alleged torture and isolation inside jail". Officials were worried that this growing public unrest could quickly turn into a major political crisis and a law and order problem in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
This development comes a day after Imran Khan’s sister, Aleema Khan, sharply increased her criticism of the government. She accused authorities of carrying out a “pre-planned political vendetta" against her family and the Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf.
Aleema claimed that state institutions were being used to silence the Khans and the PTI. She described the campaign against them as “economic strangulation" and said her bank accounts were closed “without any verdict", and without any judicial order, notice or due process.
