The trailer for Single Papa, Kunal Kemmu’s new Netflix series, dropped on Tuesday, 2 December—and it has already started conversations about parenting, family chaos, and the beauty of imperfection.
Brought to life by creators and co-producers Ishita Moitra and Neeraj Udhwani, with Shashank Khaitan serving as executive producer, the show is a collaboration of many familiar creative voices. Directed by Shashank Khaitan, Hitesh Kewalya and Neeraj Udhwani, and produced under the Juggernaut Productions banner, Single Papa promises a heartwarming yet hilarious look at a family figuring things out as they go.
Alongside Kunal Kemmu, the series boasts a delightful ensemble featuring Manoj Pahwa, Neha Dhupia, Prajakta Koli and Ayesha Raza—each adding their own charm to the family drama.
The trailer introduces us to Gaurav, played by Kunal, whose life takes an unexpected—and often messy—turn when he becomes a single parent. From fumbling with baby bottles to receiving advice from absolutely everyone, Gaurav finds himself juggling parenthood and personal chaos in equal measure.
He even has to persuade his confused parents at one point that this new phase of his life isn't a farce. The visuals strike a perfect balance between laugh-out-loud humour and moments of tender vulnerability, capturing the beauty in everyday family madness.
Speaking about the role, Kunal Kemmu shared, "Playing Gaurav has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my career. The character is flawed, funny, and fiercely loving… just like so many real-life single parents. I think audiences will see themselves and their families in this show. The warmth of every character is what makes this show so special and wholesome" He expressed his hope that audiences would recognise themselves and their own families in the show’s warmth and honesty.
Prajakta Koli, as Namrata, Gaurav’s sister and occasional voice of reason, says, “Single Papa highlights what a perfectly imperfect Indian family looks like. Noisy, loving, opinionated, dramatic but always there for each other. I am a single child so I never understood what bickering with siblings felt like before Single Papa. The banter with Kunal, the arguments, the affection, just flowed naturally. I think it’s a perfect show to binge watch with your family.”
Neha Dhupia, appearing as the confident and practical Romilla Nehra, said, "As a parent myself, what touched me the most about Single Papa is how honestly it portrays the chaos, tenderness and imperfections that make families what they are. Parenting is never linear, never perfect, and the show captures that beautifully. It blends humour and heart in a way that feels deeply real. Being a part of this world was incredibly fulfilling, and I can’t wait for audiences to feel the warmth, madness and love we’ve created."
