Oscar nominations postponed to January 23 for second time amidst ongoing wildfires

Originally scheduled for this Friday and later moved to January 19, the nominations will now be revealed on January 23.

Due to the ongoing wildfires in Los Angeles, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences has postponed the announcement of this year’s Oscar nominations for a second time, as confirmed by organizers on Monday.

"Due to the still-active fires in the Los Angeles area, we feel it is necessary to extend our voting period and move the date of our nominations announcement to allow additional time for our members," Academy CEO Bill Kramer and Academy President Janet Yang said in a statement.

The Academy has also canceled the annual Oscar nominees' luncheon, originally scheduled for February 10. However, the Academy Awards telecast remains set to air on March 2.

Meanwhile, organizers of the Grammys have confirmed that the music industry’s prestigious awards ceremony will proceed as planned on February 2.

"This year’s show, however, will carry a renewed sense of purpose: raising additional funds to support wildfire relief efforts and honoring the bravery and dedication of first responders who risk their lives to protect ours," Recording Academy officials said in a letter to members.

On Monday, the Writers Guild of America announced another delay in revealing their nominees, pushing the announcement “until further notice.” Initially set for January 9, the nominations were rescheduled for Monday before being postponed again. Despite the delays, the Writers Guild Awards ceremony is still scheduled to take place on February 15.

The 97th Academy Awards are set to proceed as planned on March 2 at the Dolby Theatre. The event will be broadcast live on ABC at 7 p.m. ET, with a simultaneous livestream available on Hulu.
