Internet personality Orhan Awatramani, better known as Orry, quickly jumped on the trend after stumbling upon the video. Sharing his take in the comments section of a reel posted by qualiteaposts, Orry wrote, “LMAO. F’ing O wtffff is disss woman smoking,” adding multiple laughing emojis. His tongue-in-cheek response only amplified the conversation, with fans flooding the comments with their own takes.

While some social media users defended Mrunal by calling it “a harmless old joke,” others criticized the actress for her words, pointing out that Bipasha Basu has long been admired for breaking stereotypes around women and fitness in Bollywood.

Not one to engage directly in controversy, Bipasha Basu appeared to address the issue indirectly through an empowering Instagram Story. She wrote:

“Strong women lift each other up. Get those muscles beautiful ladies, we should be strong. Muscles help you attain good physical and mental health forever! Bust the age-old thought process that women should not look strong or be physically strong. Love yourself.”

Though she did not mention Mrunal by name, fans quickly connected the dots. Many praised Bipasha’s dignified and positive outlook, calling her a true role model for women.

The viral clip dates back to Mrunal’s time on the popular daily soap Kumkum Bhagya, where she starred opposite Arjit Taneja. During a light-hearted banter, Arjit teased that he would like to marry a strong, muscular woman. Mrunal then joked that he could choose Bipasha Basu instead, before quipping, “Listen, I am far better than Bipasha. Okay!”

On the work front, Mrunal Thakur was last seen in Son of Sardaar 2 alongside Ajay Devgn, which released on August 1 to mixed reviews. She is gearing up for her next films, Dacoit: A Love Story and Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai opposite Varun Dhawan and Pooja Hegde. Bipasha Basu, meanwhile, has been enjoying motherhood with husband Karan Singh Grover after the birth of their daughter Devi in 2022.
