Nayanthara’s Netflix docu-drama makers explore out-of-court settlement with Chandramukhi producers

Nayanthara: Beyond the Fairytale, a Netflix documentary drama starring Nayanthara, is having legal problems again. The movie, which is about her life and career, has been in the news lately because of a lawsuit against AB International, the studio that made her 2005 hit Chandramukhi, for Rs 5 crore in damages. The claim is based on the supposed illegal use of video from the Rajinikanth–Jyothika movie, which also starred Nayanthara.
As per an article published in Hindustan Times, Nayanthara's lawyers said on September 10 that they were thinking about making a deal with AB International outside of court. "They think we violated their rights, but instead of dragging the case out, both sides are working out a peaceful solution." Rahul Dhawan, the managing partner at Lex Chambers and Nayanthara's lawyer, said, "We expect the terms of the settlement to be worked out before the next hearing on October 6, 2025."

It's intriguing that Nayanthara: Beyond the Fairytale has had legal problems in the past. In November 2024, actor Dhanush sued Nayanthara, her husband and director Vignesh Shivan, and their company Rowdy Pictures Pvt Ltd for allegedly exploiting a three-second clip from his movie Naanum Rowdy Dhaan. But that case hasn't gone to trial yet. The court hasn't scheduled a new date for the hearing yet. It was put off on August 20, 2025, because there wasn't enough time.

Nayanthara's team is still optimistic that the disputes can be settled without drawn-out trials, even though the docu-drama is still under legal scrutiny. Everyone is waiting for the court to restart the case on October 6.
