Nagarjuna signs his next with a Tamil director; 100th film on the way

Telugu superstar Nagarjuna, who worked in Lokesh Kanagaraj’s much anticipated film Coolie, is gearing up to start the shoot for his landmark 100th film.

However, this time is different and he's collaborating with Tamil director Ra Karthik (of the heartwarming debut Nitham Oru Vaanam).

Nagarjuna has reportedly given his nod for Ra Karthik's directorial debut film in Telugu, a gangster drama laced with heavy-duty action. Karthik, in the past, had turned to soft, family-friendly movies and this marks a departure from that with catchy dialogues and powerful narration to woo Nagarjuna’s fans.

A Bold Choice for a Milestone

But the film is also significant, as it would be the 100th film of the actor. Renowned for encouraging new talent, Nagarjuna is at it again by placing his bets on Karthik despite Aakasham —the Telugu version of Nitham Oru Vaanam- bombing at the box office in AP/TS.

According to industry sources, Nagarjuna is highly impressed with Karthik’s narration.

Nagarjuna on Coolie and the Pan-India Craze

During his recent speech at WAVES 2025, Nagarjuna revealed where his films’ success ranks in the pan-India cinema. Looking forward to his role in Coolie, he said:  "I’m not sure about others, but at least for me, my film should work in Telugu first. It works in your language, it will work everywhere.”

Coolie with Rajinikanth as in-lead actor, is scheduled to release on August 15. The magnum opus also stars Aamir Khan, Upendra, and Shruti Haasan in significant roles, with music composed by Anirudh Ravichander. Bankrolled by Sun Pictures, it's one of the most awaited pan-India releases of 2025.

What’s Next for Nagarjuna

Apart from Coolie, Nagarjuna is also a part of Kuberaa and alongside Dhanush. The movie features an ensemble cast of Rashmika Mandanna, Jim Sarbh, and Dalip Tahil.

As the anticipation for his 100th film escalates, audiences are excited to watch what Nagarjuna and Ra Karthik have in store and how they plan to revamp the gangster genre in a never-before-seen backdrop. If the first reports are any indication, this film looks like it will be an exciting cinematic celebration of the screen legend himself.
