NewJeans is embroiled in controversy following accusations of plagiarism from Patricia Sirvent, an original member of the iconic Mexican girl group Jeans. The allegations surfaced on May 23 when Sirvent took to Instagram, pointing out striking similarities between NewJeans and her group, Jeans, which was popular in the 1990s.
The issue gained further attention after the Mexican newspaper El Siglo highlighted the parallels between the two groups. They suggested that NewJeans might have drawn significant inspiration from Jeans, particularly in their style and overall presentation. Patricia Sirvent's social media post humorously but pointedly claimed that NewJeans had been "plagiarising us right in front of our faces," which reignited discussions about the thin line between creative inspiration and outright imitation in the music industry.
Despite the controversy, NewJeans remains focused on their ambitious plans for 2024. The group, consisting of Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin, and Hyein, continues to charm audiences with their nostalgic music style. They are preparing to make their debut in the Japanese music market with their first Japanese-language singles, 'Supernatural' and 'Right Now', set for release in June.
In addition to their musical releases, NewJeans has recently unveiled engaging music videos for their tracks 'Bubble Gum' and 'How Sweet', which have been well-received by fans.
Adding to the excitement, NewJeans is planning to embark on promotional activities in Japan, culminating in a major fan meeting event titled Bunnies Camp 2024 Tokyo Dome. Scheduled for June 26 and 27 at the iconic Tokyo Dome, this event promises to be a highlight for their dedicated fanbase.
Thereafter, NewJeans is gearing up for the release of a highly anticipated album later this year. With the plagiarism accusations surfacing, the journey towards international recognition seems paved with both challenges and triumphs.
