In an exclusive conversation with Moneycontrol, Mayur speaks about his latest song Aayi Aayi.
Was it surprising for you to see a song that was sung in your language being met with such a loving reception?
Yes, I mean Aayi Aayi is a musical masterpiece from Coke Studio Pakistan which was appreciated and loved by a lot of people. Was a bit nervous and excited to sing in Sindhi for the first time, but I was pleasantly surprised to see the audiences react so positively. It was really heartwarming to see the Sindhi community in India, and Sindhi creators come together and cheer for the song. Looking forward to doing more such content to promote regional music.
Is your culture’s representation important to you in your songs?
Yes, Absolutely the culture representation matters a lot to me as people don't really know a lot about Sindhi culture and how beautiful it is.

What was it about Aayi Aayi that inspired you to put your own twist to it?
Aayi Aayi is such a powerful piece that I was immediately drawn to it. When I heard this track, it was such an emotional rollercoaster for me, to see my language and culture being represented in the mainstream. And to come across a song that was made so beautifully, its music, its lyrics and visually everything was so well done. I wanted to make my version of the track, and do as much justice to the original as I could.

You have been playing the piano since you were 5, what do you think drew you to this particular instrument? Is piano still a really important part of your craft?
Music is everything to me. It’s not just a job or a hobby; it’s how I express myself, connect with people, and make sense of things. Piano has been with me for the longest time and most of my composition happens on a piano.
Did your background in engineering contribute in any way to the process of mixing and creating music?
Absolutely, my background in engineering has significantly contributed to my music production process. As an engineer, I developed a strong analytical and problem-solving mindset, which is crucial when dealing with complex music software and hardware. My time as a UX designer honed my attention to detail and understanding of user experiences, which translates into creating music that resonates with listeners.
