On Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi engaged with a number of renowned actors including Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Rajinikanth, Anupam Kher, Hema Malini, and others, to discuss their insights on transforming India into a global entertainment hub during the World Audio Visual Entertainment (WAVES) Summit.

In addition to the actors, PM Modi had virtual conversations with prominent figures from both India and abroad, who form part of the WAVES Summit Advisory Board. Key figures such as Mukesh Ambani, Chairman of Reliance Industries, Satya Nadella, CEO of Microsoft, and Anand Mahindra, Chairperson of Mahindra & Mahindra, Ted Sarandos, Co-CEO Netflix, Ekta R Kapoor were also part of this significant interaction.

Bhushan Kumar, Managing director of T-Series was also present for the call.

The summit, which has gathered widespread attention, aims to elevate India's standing in global content creation.

PM Modi concluded the meeting with a message on X, stating, "Just concluded an extensive meeting of the Advisory Board of WAVES, the global summit that brings together the world of entertainment, creativity and culture. The members of the Advisory Board are eminent individuals from different walks of life, who not only reiterated their support but also shared valuable inputs on how to further enhance our efforts to make India a global entertainment hub."

The Prime Minister praised the growth and influence of India’s TV shows and entertainment industry, noting how they are contributing to both the nation’s economy and its cultural prominence on the world stage. His initiative has garnered support from industry giants like Shah Rukh Khan and Akshay Kumar, who believe it has the potential to make India the centre of global content creation.

The WAVES Summit was first announced by PM Modi in December 2024, as a vital step in positioning India as the heart of global entertainment.

During his address on his ‘Mann Ki Baat’ radio show, the Prime Minister encouraged young people in the creative field to take part in the event. He stressed the importance of the summit in showcasing India’s growing influence on the international stage.

"In the years ahead, as India works towards becoming a five-trillion-dollar economy, the creator economy is bringing new energy and momentum. I encourage all of India's entertainment professionals — whether young or established, from Bollywood or regional cinema, TV industry professionals, or those in animation, gaming, or entertainment technology — to join the WAVES Summit," said PM Modi.

WAVES is more than just a summit. The inaugural International Animation Filmmakers Competition (AFC), launched on September 8, 2024, as part of the event, offers a global platform for creators in animation, VFX, AR-VR, and virtual production. This competition is seen as a pioneering step in showcasing India's growing creative sector.
