Why Sonam Kapoor rejected Mani Ratnam’s ‘Kadal’

Renowned actress and fashionista Sonam Kapoor was approached by Telugu filmmaker Mani Ratnam back in 2011 for a film titled ‘Kadal’ which Kapoor had rejected reportedly due to a language barrier.

While Sonam did not comment on the matter officially, it seemed that Sonam feared a negative impact. A close friend of Sonam Kapoor revealed that her father Anil Kapoor was trying to encourage Sonam to accept the role but to no avail.

Despite her father’s wish, Sonam had seemingly already decided and even turned the offer down. The offer for ‘Kadal’ came right after her hit film with Abhishek Bachchan and Bipasha Basu ‘Players.’ Kapoor also expressed her desire to do “something amazing” after ‘Players.’

An entertainment portal asked Kapoor whether she will do a regional film any soon and the actress said, "I wouldn't like to comment on working with Mani sir. But yes, I would love to do something amazing after Players. However, nothing is confirmed yet.”

Sonam Kapoor recently celebrated her 39th birthday on 9 June with her family. Kapoor’s husband, Anand Ahuja, shared a wholesome and emotional message on his social media account. He called Kapoor his "most special person in the world.” He also posted an unseen picture of the married couple with their son, Vayu.

He wrote, “Dedicated @sonamkapoor birthday post coming but before that, a little note about this photo I’ve been wanting to post on Sonam's birthday. Of course it shows the three of us but what’s also there, although not shown, is the rest of the ‘village’ that is helping us raise this little one - giving him the valuable experiences, lessons, values, company, and of course fun! We are truly grateful for all the friends and family we have in our lives that create the world around us. “And of course my most special person in the world @sonamkapoor that somehow is always the ‘glue’ in her groups, that she shows up for and people show up for her - friends from birth and also new friends in a new city. May we always have the awareness to be grateful for our blessings, keep perspective in our experiences and acknowledge all those that make us who we are.”
