‘Lover boy’ Nicholas Galitzine who was seen in the highly successful Amazon romcoms, “The Idea of You” and “Red, White & Royal Blue,” will be donning a new look as the superhero from the Masters of the Universe franchise, ‘He-Man.’
The upcoming film adaptation of the iconic blond warrior from the beloved Mattel toy line, will be piloted by “Bumblebee” (2018) director Travis Knight.
"Masters of the Universe" has faced a convoluted and prolonged journey to the big screen, spanning over two decades. Initially set up at Warner Bros. and Sony, the project eventually moved to Netflix, which canceled the film in 2023 due to budget issues. Over the years, numerous directors have been attached, including John Stevenson of "Kung Fu Panda," Jon M. Chu of "Wicked," McG of "Charlie's Angels," and Aaron and Adam Nee of "The Lost City." Kyle Allen, known for his role in "West Side Story," was once in talks to play He-Man, though the timing of his departure from the project remains unclear.
Produced by Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal, and Steve Tisch of Escape Artists, along with Robbie Brenner of Mattel Films, "Masters of the Universe" is now slated for an exclusive theatrical release worldwide on June 5, 2026.
The story revolves around the epic battle between He-Man (Prince Adam of Eternia), the universe's mightiest hero, and his arch-nemesis, Skeletor. The franchise originated with a popular line of action figures in 1982, followed by the animated series "He-Man and the Masters of the Universe" in 1983, which became one of the first children's programs to be syndicated on television during its two-season run. The franchise has since expanded into various media, including additional films, television series, toys, and video games, maintaining its presence in popular culture.
“We’re thrilled to bring the beloved ‘Masters of the Universe’ to life and couldn’t be more excited to announce the immensely talented Nicholas Galitzine as our He-Man,” stated Julie Rapaport, Amazon MGM Studios' head of film production and development.. “This reintroduction of the character and his universe will be an epic film that will delight audiences from here to Eternia.”
The English actor also took to his Instagram to share his emotions about his new venture, “I’m so beyond proud to announce that I will be playing Adam, Prince of Eternia in ‘Masters of the Universe’. It has been a dream for so long to play someone of his heart, humour and heroism, I cannot wait to get started.”
