Renowned choreographer Shaik Jani Basha, who is popular as Jani Master, has been granted bail by the Telangana High Court on Thursday. Jani Master has been in jail for the past one month in connection with a sexual assault case filed by a junior.
Jani Master was lodged in Chanchalguda Central Jail and has now been released on interim bail with some specific conditions.
The High Court has set some strict conditions before granting bail to Jani Master. The court said Jani Master should not interfere in the victim's life or attempt to influence the trial.
The famous choreographer was arrested from Goa last month. According to reports, the victim, who worked under Jani Master, filed a complaint with the Raidurgam police. She said he had exploited her over the period of six years.
Initially, a 'zero FIR' was registered, and the case was then transferred to Narsingi police station due to jurisdictional reasons.
The police invoked sections of the POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses) Act and other relevant laws in their investigation.
The victim had shared that the harassment occurred multiple times during shooting schedules, with Jani Master reportedly using his position of power to threaten and manipulate her.
The Raidurgam police played a key role in handling the case after the victim lodged her initial complaint. After transferring the case to Narsingi due to jurisdictional rules, the police intensified their investigation.
Following his arrest under the Pocso Act, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting also suspended his National Award for Best Choreography for the song Megham Karukkat from the Dhanush-starrer Thiruchitrambalam.
