Mallika Sherawat recently addressed the media's misquoting of her statements involving filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt in connection with her experiences after the success of the 2004 film Murder.
Taking to Instagram, she clarified the misinformation circulating on social media about her remarks.
In her post, Mallika shared a video clip from her interview on Ranveer Allahbadia’s podcast and emphasized how her statement was wrongly twisted by the media. The actress captioned her post, "So sad to see media misquoting blatantly and other outlets just copy-pasting blindly without proof check!" She went on to highlight how Mahesh Bhatt’s name was unnecessarily dragged into the narrative, creating false sensationalism.
In her Instagram post, she wrote, "Here is the video of my conversation with Ranveer Allahabadia and just to sensationalise you guys decide to use Mahesh Bhatt's name and outright misquote! He said, ‘Enjoy it! ‘cos the day they stop talking about you, that is the day you will cry.’”
At the end she wrote "I thought after 20 years atleast media will become more responsible!"
During the interview, Mallika had spoken about the struggles she faced after Murder became a hit, including the criticism and slut-shaming she endured from some of her Bollywood contemporaries.
Seeking solace, she had approached her mentor, Mahesh Bhatt, who advised her not to be affected by the negativity and instead to embrace the attention. According to Mallika, Mahesh Bhatt had given her the valuable advice to "enjoy it," explaining that the day people stop talking about her would be when she should truly be concerned.
