Excitement is already rising as Netflix formally announces Kurukshetra, its first-ever animated mythological series.
The series, which is divided into two sections with nine episodes each, reflects the 18 days of the fabled conflict from a very human perspective.
The creator of this ambitious project, Anu Sikka, sees Kurukshetra as a means of making the Mahabharata more emotionally relevant and relatable for the audience of today.
Kurukshetra, which debuted on October 10, 2025, is more than just a graphic adaptation of the Mahabharata. It's a moving reimagining that explores the moral complexity and emotional depth of its well-known characters.
As per Economic times, speaking at a recent event, Anu Sikka shared, “The show aims to combine the timeless lessons of the epic with the visual appeal of animation,”—a sentiment that clearly reflects in the series’ character-driven approach.
Directed and written by Ujaan Ganguly, the show will follow the stories of 18 key warriors, each episode presenting their inner conflicts, personal sacrifices, and dilemmas.
These aren’t just heroes and villains—they’re people dealing with honour, loyalty, doubt, and betrayal.
This subtle narrative distinguishes Kurukshetra from earlier iterations.
The renowned Gulzar, whose poetry has been incorporated into the series, adds to its emotional weight. Fans' enthusiasm has only grown as a result of his involvement; many have already praised the creators for their audacious and creative vision.
The series, which is being produced by Tipping Point of Viacom18, is aimed at a worldwide audience that values compelling character arcs and rich cultural narratives.
The show addresses timeless themes such as justice, family, identity, and the personal cost of duty, despite its ancient roots.
