Kim Kardashian is seen in tears as she reflects on her relationship with Kanye West in the forthcoming documentary In Whose Name?, which chronicles the rapper’s turbulent personal and professional life.
The newly released trailer offers an intimate and rarely seen glimpse into one of the couple’s most vulnerable moments. In one scene, Kardashian, 44, is visibly emotional as she tells her then-husband: “Your personality was not like this a few years ago.”
Elsewhere in the footage, West, 48, makes a defiant statement to Kardashian: “Never tell me I’m gonna wake up one day and have nothing.” When she responds, “We can talk about that later, but…,” he sharply interrupts: “It ain’t no ‘but.’”
The documentary, which was directed by Nicolas Ballesteros, follows West's public and private hardships over a six-year period, from the dissolution of his marriage and the loss of lucrative brand partnerships to the growing criticism of his actions and remarks.
According to the official synopsis, the film captures West’s candid reflections on living with bipolar disorder, offering what it describes as “rare insight into the realities of mental illness and its impact on identity, perception, and power.”
Kardashian and West married in 2014 and share four children: North, 12, Saint, 9, Chicago, 7, and Psalm, 7. She filed for divorce in February 2021, with the separation finalised in November 2022. Just a month later, West married Bianca Censori.
Around that time, Kardashian spoke openly on the Angie Martinez IRL podcast about her efforts to shield their children from public controversy. “I definitely protected him, and I still will in the eyes of my kids,” she said in December 2022. She added that when driving her children to school, if they wanted to listen to West’s music, she would “blast his music and sing along… act like nothing is wrong and as soon as I drop them off, I can have a good cry.”

Following the divorce, West lost deals with Adidas, Gap, and Balenciaga after making antisemitic remarks on social media. Earlier this year, he faced renewed outrage after releasing a track titled “Heil Hitler.” He later appeared to express remorse, writing on X in May: “God forgive me for the pain I’ve caused… I simply got a FaceTime from my kids and I wanna save the world again.”
In Whose Name? is set to be released in cinemas on 19 September.
