In a major development in the knife attack on Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan, the Bandra police have submitted a 1,613-page chargesheet against Mohammed Shariful Fakir, a Bangladeshi national, for allegedly assaulting the actor at his Mumbai residence.

The incident occurred on January 16, 2025, when the intruder broke into the Khans’ duplex apartment in the early hours.

According to the chargesheet, Kareena Kapoor Khan played a crucial role in ensuring the safety of her family during the traumatic incident.

After noticing Saif was bleeding from stab wounds, she urged him to stop engaging with the assailant and instead prioritize his safety. She reportedly told him, “Ye sab chhod do, pehle neeche chalo. Hospital chalte hain” (Leave all this, let’s go downstairs first. Let’s go to the hospital), as quoted by Mid-Day.

The detailed police report states that Kareena quickly gathered their two sons—Taimur and Jehangir—and house staff, taking them to the lower floors via the elevator after realizing the attacker was still inside the house.

The situation began unfolding shortly after 2 a.m., when the nanny of their younger son alerted the couple about an armed intruder in Jehangir’s room demanding money.

Kareena’s official statement included in the chargesheet recounts, “Around 2am, Junu (Jehangir’s nanny) came to our room screaming, ‘Jaybaba ke room me ek admi hath me chaku lekar aaya hai, aur wo paise maang raha hai.’”

Saif reportedly confronted the intruder, asking, “Kaun hai, kya chahiye?” (Who are you? What do you want?). A scuffle broke out between the two, during which the accused stabbed the actor multiple times—in the neck, back, and hands.

Kareena, along with her children and staff, rushed to the twelfth floor. Saif, wounded and with his clothes soaked in blood, later joined them. He corroborated Kareena’s account and revealed to police, “When I was admitted to Lilavati Hospital, doctors told me that a part of the knife was recovered from my back during surgery.”

The chargesheet also includes over 40 witness statements, including those of police personnel, domestic workers, and even Saif and Kareena themselves. It further reveals that the accused entered the building compound, scaled a pipe to the first floor, and climbed up the stairs to the 11th floor, attempting to open doors on each level before entering the Khans' apartment.

Shariful Fakir was arrested on January 19 in Thane. The police have also recorded statements from his acquaintances, including Jitendra Pandey and his maternal uncle—his only known relative in India. Forensic teams recovered 29 blood samples and 20 fingerprints from the crime scene, including a palm print on a door on the 8th floor.

Fakir, who is believed to have entered India illegally and assumed a false identity, is currently in judicial custody.
