Jon Stewart is returning to the Daily Show desk tonight, on a Thursday, not his usual Monday slot. The last-minute shuffle comes after ABC abruptly suspended Jimmy Kimmel Live! following a political firestorm.
Comedy Central confirmed Stewart will helm tonight’s episode, a rare midweek appearance for the veteran host. And let’s be honest, if there’s anyone who thrives when chaos hits the media, it’s Jon.
What Sparked the Suspension
ABC’s decision came after Kimmel suggested during Monday’s monologue that suspected Kirk shooter Tyler Robinson was a MAGA supporter. The comment drew outrage, and by Wednesday, things snowballed.
FCC chair Brendan Carr threatened ABC affiliates’ licenses, affiliate giant Nexstar announced it would preempt the show, and by evening, ABC suspended Jimmy Kimmel Live! “indefinitely.”
In short: one offhand comment, and the dominos fell fast.

Stewart Has Been Here Before
Jon hasn’t been shy about blasting networks. Back in July, when CBS axed The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Stewart slammed his own parent company. “What made you that money are shows that say something, shows that take a stand,” he said at the time. “If you believe you can serve a gruel so flavorless that you’ll never again be on the boy king’s radar… you are f---ing wrong.”

What to Expect Tonight
Whether Stewart takes direct aim at ABC, the FCC, or just the absurdity of it all, viewers can bet he’ll have something biting to say. With Jimmy Kimmel Live! suddenly dark, the late-night stage feels wide open, and Stewart knows how to seize a moment.
For fans, tonight’s Daily Show is no ordinary Thursday—it’s shaping up like appointment television.
