It's been 25 years since Hrithik Roshan became an overnight sensation with his debut in Kaho Naa... Pyaar Hai (KNPH).
Released in January 2000, the film not only marked the arrival of one of Bollywood’s most talented actors but also showcased Hrithik’s stellar dancing, charming persona, and screen presence.
As the film gears up for a celebratory re-release in theatres, Hrithik shared amusing anecdotes from the making of the movie, including one involving his sons, Hrehaan and Hridhaan, and his less-than-perfect guitar-playing skills in the song Pyar Ki Kashti Mein.
Speaking at an event commemorating his 25 years in Bollywood, Hrithik reminisced about the making of KNPH.
Among the many fond memories, he highlighted his experience shooting for the now-iconic track Pyar Ki Kashti Mein. Recalling the incident, Hrithik revealed that he was asked to play the guitar for the song just a day before the shoot.
Despite not knowing how to play the instrument, the perfectionist in him decided to learn it overnight.
"I couldn’t sleep that night. The whole night I kept trying to make a physical action with my fingers imagining the sound of the instrument. I went absolutely nuts," he admitted.
Although he managed to synchronise his finger movements with the melody during the shoot, Hrithik later realised that his efforts weren’t as convincing as he had thought. Years down the line, when his sons Hrehaan and Hridhaan—who know how to play the guitar—watched the film, they weren’t impressed.
The actor also confessed feeling nervous about KNPH’s re-release. “I’m so afraid that this film is releasing again. People might watch it after 25 years and think, ‘What were we even thinking?’” he quipped. Despite his nerves, Hrithik acknowledged that the movie holds a special place in his heart.
Directed by his father, Rakesh Roshan, Kaho Naa... Pyaar Hai became a massive success and established Hrithik as a superstar overnight.
