
Actor Robert Aramayo emerged as the unexpected star, overshadowing Timothée Chalamet and Leonardo DiCaprio to win Best Leading Actor at the 2026 BAFTA Film Awards.
Robert received BAFTS award for his portrayal of Tourette syndrome activist John Davidson in the British movie I Swear.
In addition, Robert won the Rising Star Award, making history as the first performer to win both the Leading Actor and Emerging Talent awards on the same night in BAFTA.
Following his big win at BAFTA 2026, fans have been wondering to know more about him and his credits.
Who is Robert Aramayo?
Robert Aramayo is of Basque heritage and was born in England. He was raised in Hull and started acting at the age of 7, and played Bugsy Malone in his elementary school production of the movie.
He later bagged a spot in New York's Juilliard School in 2011 after playing Alex in the Juilliard production of A Clockwork Orange, before landing his first movie part in Lost in Florence.
He received recognition for his roles in Game of Thrones. He had a brief appearance in the series and starred in just four episodes as the youthful Ned Stark.

Earlier this month, he won breakthrough performer of the year at the London Critics Circle Film Awards.
He is also known for his performance in HBO and Netflix series, including The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power series, Behind Her Eyes, Mindhunter S2, Harley And The Davidsons, Lewis And Clark and more.
It wasn't until his part in I Swear and subsequent advocacy for Tourette's condition that Aramayo garnered critical acclaim from the entertainment business.

Robert Aramayo’s BAFTA 2026 speech
After winning a BAFTA award, Rober expressed his surprise in his winning speech. He said, “I honestly cannot believe that I have won this award. I really, really cannot. Everyone in this category blows me away.”
He then went on to thank fellow nominee Ethan Hawke for helping inspire his journey into acting.
He added, “When I was in school, Ethan Hawke came in to speak to us at Juilliard, and he gave an amazing talk on longevity as an actor, about protecting your instrument and avoiding self-destructive behaviors. And it had a really great impact on everyone in that room. So to be in this category with you tonight is incredible. Thank you, Ethan.”

The 2025 film I Swear is the powerful true-life story of Tourette's Syndrome campaigner John Davidson. The film follows John Davidson, who was diagnosed with Tourette's syndrome at a young age, which alienated him from his peers. He struggled with a condition few people had witnessed.
