
Only Muders in the Building actor Martin Short's daughter, Katherine Elizabeth Short, has passed away. She was 42.
According to TMZ, Katherine Short was discovered dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound at her Hollywood Hills residence on Monday night. Following reports from the area, law enforcement officials told the outlet that emergency services and Los Angeles Police Department officers arrived just after 6:40 p.m. Her age was forty-two.
The Short family confirmed the death news and asked for privacy in an official statement that reads, "It is with profound grief that we confirm the passing of Katherine Hartley Short. The Short family is devastated by this loss and asks for privacy at this time. Katherine was beloved by all and will be remembered for the light and joy she brought into the world.”
The Los Angeles Fire Department received a call about a female who was about 41 years old from a Hollywood Hills residence at 6:41 p.m. on Monday, February 23.. The call was about a potential suicide, the Los Angeles Police Department confirms to People.
Meanwhile, Katherine’s death marks Martin Short's second major loss in recent weeks after his long-time friend Catherine O'Hara passed away last month.
According to those close to the Short family, Katherine was a beloved but infrequently public personality who was respected for her warmth and kindness by those who knew her directly because of her reserved demeanour and preference for isolation.
Who was Katherine Martin?
Martin Short and his late wife, Nancy Dolman, who passed away from ovarian cancer in 2010, adopted Katherine. Henry Hayter, 36, and Oliver Patrick, 39, were the couple's other adopted children.
In addition to working as a certified clinical social worker in private practice, Katherine worked part-time at Amae Health, a clinic that offered psychotherapy, peer assistance, family support groups, and community outreach.

She graduated from New York University in 2006 with a bachelor's degree in psychology and gender sexuality studies, and in 2010, she earned a master's degree in social work from the University of Southern California.
Although Katherine largely stayed out of the spotlight, she did occasionally go to events with her father, such as the Vanity Fair Oscar Party in February 2011 and the afterparty for The Producers in 2003.
