Indian chess prodigy D Gukesh achieved a significant milestone by defeating former world number one Magnus Carlsen in a classical format for the first time at the prestigious Norway Chess 2025 tournament. The victory in round six not only marked a personal triumph for the 19-year-old but also drew nationwide attention and admiration, including from Bollywood and South Indian cinema stars like Kangana Ranaut and Samantha Ruth Prabhu.

Sharing a video clip of the final moments, where Carlsen is seen visibly upset and bangs the table after his defeat, Kangana highlighted Gukesh's calm and composed reaction.
She captioned the clip with, “Ha ha Gukesh’s reaction... congratulations,” and added clapping and flower emojis, celebrating the young grandmaster's poise and confidence during a historic win.
Samantha Ruth Prabhu also shared her admiration for Gukesh on social media. She reposted the winning moment and simply called it “Beautiful,” followed by strong arm emojis, conveying pride and joy. Her response captured the emotional resonance of the win, reflecting how deeply Gukesh's achievement impacted not just sports fans but also personalities across various fields.
This win is historic for multiple reasons. Gukesh became only the second Indian to defeat Magnus Carlsen in a classical game, following the footsteps of Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa.
