Actor and politician Kangana Ranaut has reacted strongly to the ongoing controversy about Sara Ali Khan's trips to the holy Badrinath and Kedarnath shrines.

After the Badri-Kedar Temple Committee (BKTC) implemented a new regulation requiring non-Hindu devotees to provide an affidavit attesting to their belief in Sanatan Dharma before being permitted access into the temples, the dispute broke out.

When officials said that even Sara Ali Khan, who routinely travels to Kedarnath, would have to abide by the regulation, the decision attracted attention.

BJP MP and actress Kangana Ranaut responded to the development by saying that people should declare their faith without reluctance. "Everyone is a Sanatani," she said, asking why anyone would be afraid to write the truth in an affidavit.

Kangana was asked about the BKTC chairman Hemant’s comment on Wednesday and she replied, “Sab Sanatani hai. Yahan pe jo bhi hai, sab Sanatani hai. Kyunki hamara jab janam hua hai..Sanatan matlab jiska naa aadi hai na ant. Sare religion hazaar, 15 sau saal puraane hai. Sanatan hi hai jo satya hai. To vo bhi Sanatani hi hai. Ab unko satya likhne mai kya ghabrahat? Likh dijiye.”

Hemant, the chairman of the BKTC, said during a news conference on Tuesday that in order for non-Hindus to enter the temples of Badrinath and Kedarnath, they must sign a written declaration attesting to their Sanatani identity and belief in Hindutva. Additionally, the suggestion has been forwarded to the Uttarakhand government before the April start of the Char Dham Yatra.

When asked about Sara specifically, he said, “If Sara Ali Khan affirms that she holds faith and devotion towards Sanatan, and subsequently submits an affidavit to that effect, she will be granted darshan,” as per PTI.

For the unversed, Sara Ali Khan is the daughter of actors Amrita Singh, a Sikh, and Saif Ali Khan, a Muslim.
