Govinda's manager speaks on his and Ssunita Ahuja's divorce rumours

Social media has once again been abuzz with speculation about Bollywood icon Govinda and his wife Ssunita Ahuja, with rumours of a divorce reigniting months after they first made headlines. But those close to the couple are urging fans not to jump to conclusions.

Several media outlets recently reported that Ssunita had filed for divorce on 5 December 2024 at the Bandra Family Court, citing adultery, cruelty, and desertion. The reports led to fresh gossip online about trouble in the couple’s decades-long marriage.

In response, Govinda’s manager has clarified that the news is not only outdated but also no longer relevant. Speaking to PTI, he said, “This is the same old news which came out six-seven months ago. Sunita had filed a divorce petition six to seven months ago; now everything is getting settled. In a week or so, everyone will hear the news.”

He added that the family is moving forward together, saying, “The whole family is going to celebrate the Ganesh Chaturthi festival together, for which Sunita is busy doing the preparation.”

Govinda’s lawyer, Lalit Bindal, echoed the sentiment, calling the recent buzz “old news.” Neither Govinda nor Sunita has commented directly, keeping their personal matters out of the public eye for now.

Despite the speculation, Sunita has always been vocal about her admiration for Govinda’s legacy. In a previous interview with Zoom, she encouraged him to return to the big screen. “I always tell Govinda that you are a legend star, aap 90s ke raaja the (you were the 90s king). Today’s generation of kids dances to your songs. I keep asking him to have better company. Why is a legend like you sitting at home? Actors of your age are doing so much work, including Anil Kapoor, Suniel Shetty, and Jackie Shroff. Why don’t you work? We miss seeing Govinda in films.”

Once hailed as the king of comedy and dance in the 1990s and early 2000s, Govinda’s star has faded somewhat in recent years. While he attempted a comeback with roles in Raavan and Kill Dil, they didn’t reignite his career. His last film, Rangeela Raja (2019), didn’t make a mark, and since then, he has kept a low profile.

As the family prepares to celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi together, it seems for now, the personal matters are being kept private—just as they should be.
