Filmmaker Rohit Shetty has issued a firm clarification after reports claimed that Golmaal 5 is inspired by or based on the 1980 cult comedy Do Aur Do Paanch. The director’s production banner, Rohit Shetty Picturez, released an official note addressing what it described as incorrect and misleading information doing the rounds in sections of the media.
In the statement shared online, the team categorically denied the claims and urged media outlets to verify facts before publishing. The note read:
“We wish to issue a strict clarification regarding certain news reports currently circulating across online and digital media platforms claiming that Golmaal 5 is inspired by or based on the film ‘Do Aur Do Paanch’.
We categorically state that these reports are factually incorrect, misleading and completely untrue.
We strongly request all media houses, publications, portals, and digital platforms to refrain from publishing or circulating unverified information. Any news, update or clarification pertaining to Rohit Shetty or Golmaal 5 must be verified with us or the official PR representatives – Universal Communications, prior to publication or strict legal action will be taken.
We expect your cooperation in maintaining journalistic accuracy and responsibility. We also request that incorrect reports currently in circulation be corrected or taken down at the earliest.
Team RSP”
The clarification comes amid widespread chatter around the fifth installment of the popular Golmaal franchise, which is gearing up to go on floors.
Reports had suggested that Rohit Shetty was planning to adapt or reimagine Do Aur Do Paanch within the Golmaal universe.
An earlier report by Bollywood Hungama claimed, “Rohit is a big fan of yesteryear comedies. Golmaal Returns was Aaj Ki Taaza Khabar, Bol Bachchan was Golmaal (1979), and Golmaal 3 was based on Khatta Meetha (1978). Now, taking the franchise ahead, Rohit is set to re-envision the Amitabh Bachchan and Shashi Kapoor starrer Do Aur Do Paanch in the form of Golmaal 5.” The new statement has now firmly put those speculations to rest.
Meanwhile, the filmmaker has also been in the news for security reasons. Gunshots were reportedly fired outside his Mumbai residence on Sunday, following which Mumbai Police stepped up protection.
According to sources cited by Mid-Day, enhanced security measures are also being planned for the sets of Golmaal 5. If filming proceeds as scheduled, nearly 60 security personnel are expected to be deployed, with a two-tier arrangement involving local police and Shetty’s private security team.
On the work front, Rohit Shetty’s other directorial, a biopic on former Mumbai Police Commissioner Rakesh Maria starring John Abraham, has temporarily paused. The film went on floors in April 2025 and was last shot in South Mumbai.
