Who will get Giorgio Armani empire after his passing?

The fashion world is currently mourning the loss of one of its most loved and influential figures,  Giorgio Armani. He was known as the man who redefined elegance and power dressing for generations.

Unfortunately, he passed away on September 4 at the age of 91.

His death marks the end of a remarkable chapter in fashion history, and naturally, speculation about the Armani empire's future follows.

Armani was a visionary as well as a designer. Few could have foreseen his profound impact on global fashion when he established his label in 1975. His simple, well-tailored style became the norm everywhere he went, from the boardroom to the red carpet.

His empire, which is currently worth about $12 billion, consists of a variety of brands, ranging from the more affordable Armani Jeans and Armani Exchange to the more upscale Giorgio Armani and Armani Privé.

Armani was renownedly private despite the global reach of his brand. He kept his inner circle close, never married, and had no kids. However, he was never by himself. His close relationships with Sergio Galeotti — his early business partner — and later Leo Dell’Orco were central to both his personal life and his professional world.

Though Armani was discreet about his succession plans, he wasn’t unprepared. In 2016, he set up the Giorgio Armani Foundation, not just to preserve the legacy of the brand but to ensure it remained independent.

In true Armani fashion, the foundation’s rules prevent the company from being publicly listed for at least five years after his death — a clear sign that he wanted to protect the brand from outside influence.

Leadership of the house now appears likely to remain within the family. Armani’s elder sister Rosanna, nieces Silvana and Roberta, and nephew Andrea Camerana have long been involved in the company and are expected to play key roles moving forward.

He also trusted Leo Dell’Orco deeply — a figure who may be central to the brand’s next chapter.

Giorgio Armani’s death is a profound loss, not just for Italian fashion, but for anyone who’s ever been inspired by his timeless style.
