Nearly two decades after Awarapan became a cult favorite, Emraan Hashmi is returning as Shivam in its long-awaited sequel. Titled Awarapan 2, the film officially went on floors in Bangkok this week, with a mahurat puja marking the beginning of the first schedule on Monday.
The 2007 original has maintained a loyal following over the years, thanks to its gripping storyline, memorable characters, and timeless soundtrack. Fans have consistently demanded a sequel, and their wait is finally over. Written by Bilal Siddiqui and directed by Nitin Kakkar, the sequel is being produced by Vishesh Bhatt under the Vishesh Films banner, keeping the legacy of the Bhatt-Emraan collaborations alive.
The announcement of Awarapan 2 doubled as a birthday surprise for Emraan Hashmi, who turned a year older on September 29. Sharing his excitement, the actor expressed how special it feels to revisit Shivam’s journey after so many years, with the character still resonating strongly among fans. Producer Vishesh Bhatt also echoed this sentiment, emphasizing how the sequel aims to balance nostalgia with a new, emotionally layered story.
Like its predecessor, Awarapan 2 promises a blend of high-octane action, raw emotion, and a stirring soundtrack — elements that have become trademarks of Emraan’s films with Vishesh Films. Their past collaborations, including Murder, Raaz, Jannat, and Gangster, have all produced chartbusting music and gripping drama, and expectations for this sequel are equally high.
The story will take Shivam’s arc forward, exploring fresh conflicts while staying true to the essence that made the original so impactful. With the film already in production, fans won’t have to wait too long — the official release date has been locked for April 3, 2026.
Before diving into this project, Emraan Hashmi was last seen in the Telugu blockbuster They Call Him OG, where he played the primary antagonist alongside Pawan Kalyan. His performance earned praise, and now with Awarapan 2, the actor seems poised to deliver yet another memorable role.
