Emraan Hashmi gives latest update on Awarapan 2 filming, reveals working on the script for 2 years

When Emraan Hashmi revealed the Awarapan sequel on his birthday in March, fans were thrilled. Emraan has now provided more details about the filming schedule for the eagerly awaited project in a new interview.

While announcing the sequel earlier this year, Emraan had shared a nostalgic clip featuring his character from the 2007 film, standing on a boat and gazing at the sunset behind a city skyline. The video, accompanied by the iconic song Tera Mera Rishta, went viral almost instantly, stirring emotions among longtime fans.

Emraan stated in an interview with News18 Showsha that the crew will start shooting at the end of July. Fans will have plenty to look forward to as he also confirmed that the sequel will be released in theatres on April 3, 2026.

Despite having a modest initial run at the box office, Awarapan, which costarred Shriya Saran, progressively gained a devoted following over time and became a cult favourite among viewers.

During the interview he also opened up about working on Awarapan 2's script for several years with the team. "We’ve been working on the script of the sequel for almost a couple of years. We didn’t want to make a sequel just for the sake of it. It just so happened that we completed working on that script this year. Imagine the kind of draw the film had after its theatrical run," the Ground Zero actor added.

Emraan further emphasized on the sudden rise in the film's popularity over the internet. He said, “Awarapan picked up over time through the internet, YouTube, satellite and Torrent. That’s how it developed a huge fan-base. It bears testament to the fact that even a theatrical film isn’t just limited to the cinemas."

The 2007 film Awarapan, directed by Mohit Suri, follows the story of Shivam, a hitman assigned to watch over his boss’s mistress. As he carries out his task, Shivam discovers that the woman is actually a victim of sex trafficking, leading him to risk everything in an effort to reunite her with the man she truly loves.
