Eminem is preparing for a legal dispute with Meta, one of the most influential tech firms in the world.
In a significant lawsuit against Meta Platforms, the parent company of Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, the well-known rapper's music publishing company, Eight Mile Style, is requesting an astounding $109 million in damages.
According to E! news, Meta is accused of widespread copyright infringement in court documents that were filed on May 30.
According to the filing, Eminem (real name Marshall Mathers) alleges that Meta unlawfully used 243 songs from his catalogue. The claim centres on the alleged “unauthorised storage, reproduction and exploitation” of these tracks across its various platforms.
The lawsuit particularly targets features such as Original Audio and Reels, which allegedly “allow and encourage its users to steal” his music by incorporating it into video content “without proper attribution or license.”
The legal team argues that this practice has significantly harmed the value of Eminem’s copyrights, resulting in lost earnings and unjust profits for Meta. As such, Eight Mile Style is demanding compensation for “the diminished value of the copyrights by Defendants’ theft of them, lost profits, and Defendants’ profits attributable to the infringement.”
Alternatively, they have asked for the maximum statutory damages—$150,000 per infringed song, across all three platforms—amounting to a total of $109,350,000.
Meta Platforms has yet to issue a public response to the lawsuit, despite requests for comment.

Eminem, long known for infusing his music with personal struggles, has spoken in the past about the cathartic role rap plays in his life. “One of the great things about rap music is that you could put so much of your life in it,” he said during an interview on Sway In The Morning in June 2022. “It's therapeutic and that's how it's always been for me.”
He has also been candid about overcoming addiction, recalling on the Paul Pod podcast in 2022, “I remember when I first got sober and all the s--t was out of my system. I remember just being really happy and everything was f--king new to me again.”
