Following the release of their new joint single, Sapphire, international music sensation Ed Sheeran, who recently travelled to India, wrote a heartfelt ode to Arijit Singh.

In addition to praising Arijit's extraordinary vocal ability, the English singer-songwriter shared special memories of their time together in West Bengal, where the song was finalised.

The track Sapphire, a unique cross-cultural blend, dropped just three days ago and is already making waves. Ed reflected on his first encounter with Arijit’s music, recalling how he was captivated by the iconic Bollywood ballad Tum Hi Ho from Aashiqui 2.

“I first became aware of Arijit Singh's music when I watched Aashiqui 2 and heard Tum Hi Ho. I was proper spellbound by his voice, the song, the scene in the movie,” he shared.

Their musical journey took a deeply personal turn when Ed decided to visit Arijit’s hometown. “I said to him, we should finish this in person, and he said, please come to my hometown so I can show you my home and culture,” Ed wrote.

Accompanied by his father—making the trip even more meaningful—Ed flew to Kolkata, followed by a long drive to Arijit’s home. Their visit included a scenic barge ride, a scooty trip to the studio, and cultural immersion.

Recounting the experience, Ed noted, “Arijit taught me Punjabi and how to pronounce it all properly, and showed me sitar. We then had dinner, and scooted around the village to see the sunset and moon with my dad. It was a proper core memory I'll always cherish with my father, and I'm honoured to have created in this way with Arijit.”

Calling Arijit “one of the most talented humans I’ve ever met,” Ed expressed gratitude for their collaboration. The full Punjabi version of Sapphire is expected to release in the coming weeks, with Ed promising to share more behind-the-scenes clips soon.

Fans were also delighted to spot Shah Rukh Khan in the music video, with Ed cheekily adding, “love that guy,” and calling Arijit “the final jigsaw piece” of the song.
