Dwayne Johnson has officially confirmed that Jumanji 3 is happening, with filming set to kick off in November this year. The announcement was made during his recent appearance at a film festival, where he spoke at length about his upcoming projects and how he’s striking a balance between mega blockbusters and more challenging roles.

The news is a big moment for fans of the franchise. The last two films, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle (2017) and Jumanji: The Next Level (2019), were huge box office successes and were praised for their entertaining adventure style and the hilarious chemistry between Johnson and Kevin Hart.

Both actors will be back for the third installment, ensuring that the core dynamic that made the earlier films work will continue.

Speaking to Variety, Dwayne Johnson spoke about the franchise’s importance in his career. “The films that I made in the past, I love them. I’ll go back to making them again.” This sentiment confirms that while he’s venturing into bold new territory as an actor, he isn’t walking away from crowd-pleasing hits that fans love.

At the same time, Johnson is preparing for a very different kind of performance in Benny Safdie’s Lizard Music. Based on Daniel Pinkwater’s novel, the film has Johnson stepping into the shoes of Chicken Man, a 70-something eccentric whose best friend is a chicken.

The actor revealed he’s adjusting his body and lifestyle for the part, dropping weight after bulking up for The Smashing Machine. “I still have a long way to go,” Johnson admitted, adding that Safdie’s pitch sold him completely: “After about 45 minutes, this pitch ended and I said, ‘I am your Chicken Man.’”

Dwayne Johnson also opened up about how he previously felt typecast in action roles. “I felt for a few years, I was pigeonholed because I allowed it to happen,” he said. With films like The Smashing Machine and Lizard Music, he sees a chance to break those limits and expand his range.

Still, the confirmation of Jumanji 3 is the headline for fans. With Johnson and Kevin Hart reuniting, the franchise is poised to build on its past success and deliver another box office adventure when production starts this November.
