The much-anticipated superhero film Deadpool and Wolverine, starring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, has displayed a strong opening at the Indian box office, meeting trade analysts’ expectations.
According to early estimates by Sacnilk, the film has accumulated an impressive Rs 66.15 crore in its first three days of release in India.
Directed by Shawn Levy, the film opened strong with Rs 21 crore on its debut day. It experienced a 7.86% increase on its second day, bringing in Rs 22.65 crore. However, on Sunday, the film saw a slight decline, earning Rs 22.50 crore. Despite this dip, Deadpool and Wolverine has secured a spot among the top 10 highest-grossing opening weekends ever for Hollywood films in India, joining the ranks of Avengers: Endgame, Avatar: The Way of Water, Spider-Man: No Way Home, Avengers: Infinity War, and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
The film has now surpassed Godzilla x Kong to become the biggest Hollywood opener of 2024 in India. In comparison to Bollywood films, it stands as the second-highest opening weekend grosser of the year, just behind Fighter.
The film saw a 38.92% English occupancy on Sunday, with strong attendance for afternoon and evening shows. Regionally, it performed exceptionally well in Chennai (82%), Kochi (49.75%), Bengaluru (43.50%), Kolkata (37%), and Pune (36.75%). Its Hindi language version had an occupancy of 29.98%, with notable turnout in Bengaluru, Chandigarh, Jaipur, NCR, and Mumbai. Telugu and Tamil versions had occupancies of 21.88% and 58.09%, respectively.
Deadpool and Wolverine's success, the ongoing Hindi comedy drama Bad Newz, featuring Vicky Kaushal and Triptii Dimri, has seen a renewal, with its earnings rising to Rs 52 crore in India.
The superhero movie has taken the global box office by storm, raking in an extraordinary Rs. 3650 crores during its opening weekend. This impressive figure has cemented the film's status as the highest-grossing opening film of 2024.
In India, Deadpool & Wolverine has made a significant impact, amassing Rs. 83.28 crores in its first weekend. This impressive debut not only surpasses the lifetime collections of Deadpool (Rs. 40.79 crores) and Deadpool 2 (Rs. 69.94 crores) but also sets the stage for a remarkable ongoing performance.
It remains to be seen if the superhero action drama will continue to perform strongly, especially with new releases like Auron Mein Kaha Dum Tha, starring Ajay Devgn and Tabu, scheduled for August 2, followed by Stree 2 and Khel Khel Mein on August 15.
