Celebrity fitness experts Tridev Pandey and Sohina Singh weigh in on real transformations, myths and mindset; say, 'Quick fixes don’t work' - Exclusive interview

Celebrity fitness experts Tridev Pandey and Sohina Singh have spent years reshaping not just bodies, but belief systems, one disciplined workout and one sustainable habit at a time. Having trained stars like Kartik Aaryan, Sanya Malhotra, Shweta Tripathi, Rajkummar Rao and several others, they are now regarded as two of the most influential voices in the fitness space. In fact, Kartik Aaryan recently clinched his first Filmfare Award for Chandu Champion — a transformation that Tridev personally coached him through, crafting the actor’s now-iconic athletic physique.

But their impact goes far beyond celebrity prep. From postpartum recovery to hormone health, from debunking fitness myths to designing holistic programs, the couple has built a system rooted in realism, empathy and science-backed training. In this candid conversation with MoneyControl, the duo breaks down the evolving landscape of fitness in 2025, the truth behind celebrity transformations, the myths social media won’t stop selling, and what “being fit” truly means today.

You both have transformed bodies and mindsets for years. How did this journey begin for you individually, and then as a couple?

Sohina: Both of us grew up with sports. Tridev played basketball, did track events, and eventually discovered his passion - boxing where he trained at a national level.

Tridev: Sohina was always inclined toward sports and strength training since school days. Fitness was something we both naturally enjoyed, even before we ever thought of doing it professionally.

Sohina: We actually met in the gym and that’s where our bond grew stronger. We connected over how differently we looked at fitness, not as “lose weight fast” or “follow one strict plan" but as something personal, flexible and long term.

Tridev: After becoming parents, Sohina’s postpartum experience was a big turning point. We struggled, learned, rebuilt and that inspired us to share a more real and honest approach to fitness. That led to our online women’s workout group and eventually our full transformation program where we could combine both our strengths.

Tridev, you come from a boxing background, and Sohina brings nutrition knowledge. How do you blend these two when training clients?

Sohina: Tridev has always been strong with structured training and planning workouts based on goals, helping with form, strength, mobility and overall fitness. But workouts alone don’t bring results if someone’s nutrition isn’t aligned. The food you eat decides how much you can push in a workout, how well you recover and how your body changes. So we started combining both. I had a basic nutrition foundation from my undergraduate studies and I went deeper studying more about nutrition, hormones, gut health, women’s health, and how lifestyle affects the body.

Now our programs are built around one principle: Training and nutrition must support each other. That’s the reason our clients see sustainable results.

How different is celebrity training compared to non-celebrity clients?

Tridev: Celebrities usually work around very tight shooting schedules, travel, and role-specific timelines. Their goals are often very precise like preparing for a role, action sequence, or specific body type, so the planning becomes more detailed. But the core doesn’t change. Whether someone is a celebrity or a regular person with a 9-to-5 job, the fundamentals remain exactly the same. You need to train smart, eat right, recover well and most importantly stay consistent.

Name some biggest fitness myths that need to be busted in 2025.

Sohina: Myth#1: Eating less leads to weight loss - Under-eating slows down your metabolism, affects hormones and often leads to binge eating later.

Myth#2: Working out more means more fat loss - More is not always better. Smart, structured workouts and recovery bring better results.

Myth#3: Cheat days are necessary - Cheat days often lead to guilt and overeating. A balanced approach works much better.

Myth#4: Excess cardio is fat loss.

Social media pushes quick fixes and instant results. What’s your take?

Sohina: Quick fixes don’t work. No tea, detox, or magic powder can change your body. You need to work on yourself, build habits, face your mental blocks and stay consistent.

Tridev: Short-term challenges like 30 or 60 days can be useful to start a journey. They help people get into routine. That’s why we created our 90-day transformation program. It helps people learn about their body, understand nutrition and start changing habits. Not everyone finishes their full goal in 90 days, but they definitely start moving in the right direction and that’s what matters.

How have fitness trends changed in the last decade?

Tridev: People now understand that fitness is not only about big muscles or heavy lifting. Movement matters, mobility, flexibility, mental wellness, posture and overall lifestyle.

Sohina: Earlier many people would delay joining a gym because they felt they needed to “look a certain way” first. Now fitness is much more inclusive. There are options for all ages, all levels and all body types, functional training, mobility, strength, walking groups, yoga, online workouts.

This shift is positive and much needed.

What's your advice for people dealing with post-festivities weight gain?

Sohina: Festivals are meant to be enjoyed and food is a big part of our festivals. So feeling guilty afterwards is unnecessary.

The real issue is not the food, it’s the guilt and the pressure we put on ourselves. You can’t have your routine perfect all the time, and that’s normal. What matters is you get back to your routine once it’s over.

We always tell clients, “Numbers don’t define you. Your willpower and ability to take charge of your health do.” Once you’re back to your normal meals, movement, water intake, and sleep, you naturally reset.

What are three realistic fitness habits busy professionals or parents can start today?

Sohina: 1. Add some movement daily - If you can’t go to the gym, work out at home. Even 20–30 minutes is enough. If that feels hard, start with walking and build up slowly.

2. Practice portion control - Ask: “Is this meal fueling my body or just my mood?” Stop eating before you feel completely full.

3. Keep your routine simple and consistent - You don’t need fancy equipment, long workouts, or strict diets. Small habits done daily create long-term results.

As a couple, how do you inspire each other? Do your philosophies ever clash?

Sohina: To be honest, our clients inspire us more than anything. Their struggles, their progress, their emotional journeys, breaking old beliefs, battling self-doubt, improving their relationship with food, these all motivate us to learn, grow and refine our own approach.

We learn from them every single day and that keeps both of us aligned and inspired to do better.

Can you share a transformation story that stayed with you?

Tridev: There was one client who inspired us - Sanjukta. She is a cancer survivor, unsure of how to start working out, what to eat or how to even begin her fitness journey again.

For us, it was a challenge, because transforming a regular client is one thing, but guiding someone through recovery is completely different. She had joint pain, limited mobility and a lot of doubts. But we took it on because every body is different, and as transformation coaches we grow the most when we learn to handle unique situations.

Sohina: Working with her for 90 days was an incredible experience. We watched her slowly regain strength, her parameters improve, her weight drop, her mood lift and her hormones stabilise. The transformation wasn’t just physical, her confidence came back. And today, the best part is that she motivates others around her. She tells her colleagues and friends to work out, because now she has felt the change herself.

Sanjukta, if you’re reading this, we are so proud of you. Your journey inspired us as much as it empowered you.

What’s next for your fitness brand?

Sohina: We have many ideas, but with Tridev’s studio and us being new parents, time is always limited. Still, we’re committed to growing step by step. Our focus is on improving our existing programs and making them easier and better for people across all levels. Stay tuned - we’re just getting started.

What does “fit” mean to you in 2025?

Tridev: Fitness has nothing to do with six-packs or the number on the weighing scale. For us, being fit means feeling comfortable in your body, moving without pain, having energy throughout the day, staying mentally alert and being strong enough to handle daily life. We also push our clients to focus on skills like push-ups, pull-ups, handstands, skipping because functional goals are more meaningful than chasing a number on a scale. Skills build confidence, discipline, and long-term strength.
