BTS' SUGA, one of the most renowned K-pop rappers, is currently embroiled in a drunk driving case that has dominated headlines. South Korean broadcasting giant KBS provided an exclusive statement to Ilgan Sports, addressing the possibility of banning SUGA from their broadcasts due to the ongoing DUI investigation.

According to the report, the channel has not yet decided whether to convene a special meeting to determine SUGA's future appearances on their platform. The decision will depend largely on the outcome of the ongoing investigation.

For now, the Broadcast Appearance Review Committee has not moved forward with any formal discussions regarding SUGA's potential ban. However, KBS officials also told Star News that SUGA's current status as a social worker, serving his mandatory military enlistment, could significantly influence their final decision.

The channel emphasised that, given the case's ongoing nature and the pending results of the police investigation, they do not feel the need to address the issue immediately.

South Korean media channels have a history of banning celebrities involved in illegal activities or major social controversies. These bans often apply to individuals who have been booked, arrested, or convicted of crimes such as drug use, gambling, or other activities that are seen as damaging to public morals. KBS, in particular, has enforced such bans on numerous high-profile figures in the past, including actors and K-pop stars like Kim Sae Ron, who faced legal troubles.

The Broadcast Appearance Review Committee at KBS typically assesses the severity of a case before deciding to ban a celebrity. This process ensures that the channel upholds its standards for public decency while balancing the potential impact on the individual's career.
