BTS' RM marks his biggest US opening with new solo album 'Right Place, Wrong Person'

RM of BTS has made a triumphant comeback with his new solo album, 'Right Place, Wrong Person'. The album has been met with widespread

acclaim from fans and critics alike, earning RM his highest-ever debut

on the Billboard 200 chart.

On June 2, 2024, Billboard announced the latest entries on its 200

Albums chart, and RM’s 'Right Place, Wrong Person' made a stunning

debut at the 5th position. This achievement marks RM's highest solo

debut on the chart and is a significant milestone in his career. His

previous solo album, 'Indigo', debuted at 15th place and eventually

peaked at 3rd.

With this new entry, RM has become the first K-pop soloist to reach

the top five of the Billboard 200 chart with two different albums. The

success of 'Right Place, Wrong Person' also marks RM's biggest solo US

debut yet. According to Luminate (formerly Nielsen Music), the album

earned 54,000 equivalent album units in its first week ending May 30.

This total includes 43,000 traditional album sales and 7,500 streaming

equivalent album (SEA) units, which equate to 10.16 million on-demand

audio streams. Additionally, the album accrued 3,500 track equivalent

album (TEA) units.

RM, born Kim Namjoon, is the leader of the globally renowned boy band

BTS. Known for his exceptional rapping and songwriting skills, RM has

been a pivotal force behind BTS’s success. He first showcased his solo

talent with his debut mixtape, 'RM', in 2015, followed by 'Mono' in

2018. Both mixtapes received critical acclaim and solidified his

reputation as a solo artist.

In 2022, RM officially debuted as a solo artist with his first studio

album, 'Indigo', featuring the title track 'Wild Flower'. The album

was a commercial success and garnered immense attention from fans

worldwide.

Currently, RM is serving in the South Korean military, as mandated by

the country’s conscription laws. He pre-recorded 'Right Place, Wrong

Person' before his enlistment, ensuring that his fans would have new

music to enjoy during his absence. Due to military regulations, he

will not be involved in any commercial promotion of the album.
