Shahid Kapoor and Triptii Dimri’s upcoming romantic drama O’Romeo is all set to arrive in theatres on February 13. The film boasts an impressive ensemble cast that includes Avinash Tiwary, Tamannaah Bhatia and Vikrant Massey, among others.
Ahead of the release, director Vishal Bhardwaj has revealed an interesting behind-the-scenes detail, sharing that two actors from the cast chose not to take any remuneration for their roles in the film.
Vishal Bhardwaj recently opened up about Vikrant Massey and recalled how the actor had committed to O’Romeo several years ago, long before he rose to prominence. At the time, Vikrant was still an emerging talent in the industry.
Despite achieving massive success after 12th Fail, the actor honoured his earlier promise when Vishal approached him again, agreeing to be part of the project without charging a fee.
According to Vishal, Vikrant shared that watching Maqbool had inspired him to enter the film industry and changed the course of his life. He viewed his special appearance in O’Romeo as a heartfelt tribute to the filmmaker. Vikrant shot for approximately eight to nine days for the project.
The Haider director also revealed that Tamannaah Bhatia came on board O’Romeo without accepting any payment, even as the production faced budget limitations. Although her role in the film is brief, it is pivotal to the narrative and plays a key role in revealing a major plot twist.
Tamannaah reportedly agreed to the project immediately upon being approached and went on to shoot for nearly 12 days, significantly longer than originally planned. She also took part in workshops and rehearsals to fully prepare for her layered character. Vishal Bhardwaj noted that her dedication and generosity made a lasting impression on the overall filmmaking process.

O’Romeo marks the third collaboration between Vishal Bhardwaj and Shahid Kapoor. The director-actor duo has previously delivered acclaimed films such as Kaminey (2009) and Haider (2014).
The film draws inspiration from the story of Hussain Ustara, featured in journalist-author Hussain Zaidi’s book Mafia Queens of Mumbai. With its theatrical release scheduled for February 13, O’Romeo is expected to offer a compelling blend of romance, drama and layered storytelling.
