Sunny Deol resumes ‘Lahore 1947’ shoot after Aamir Khan’s creative inputs; release shifted to 2026

Actor Sunny Deol has returned to the sets of Lahore 1947 in Punjab, kicking off the film’s final shooting schedule. The Rajkumar Santoshi-directed project, backed by Aamir Khan Productions, is undergoing some reshoots after Aamir Khan suggested creative changes during the first cut viewing.

The team, sources say, is determined to deliver a stronger version of the much-anticipated period drama. “Sunny and Santoshi sir will shoot most of these newly envisioned sequences in real locations of Punjab. The shoot begins on October 10 and will continue for 12 days,” a source told Mid-Day.

Aamir Khan steps in as producer

Aamir Khan, who is producing the film, recommended adjustments to elevate the story and execution. Sunny Deol and Rajkumar Santoshi agreed to the changes, prioritizing quality over speed. Initially slated for a 2025 release, Lahore 1947 has now been pushed to 2026.

An insider explained, "But as Aamir, Sunny, and Santoshi sat down to discuss the film's progress, they unanimously agreed that it was more important to have a superior quality product than compromise on the vision for a quick release."

Partition drama with an emotional core

Lahore 1947 explores the human toll and emotional upheaval during India’s partition. Along with Sunny Deol, the film stars Preity Zinta and Shabana Azmi. However, the upcoming Punjab shoot will only feature Sunny Deol, as most of the other cast members have already wrapped their portions.

What’s next for Sunny Deol and Aamir Khan

Sunny Deol, who recently appeared in Gopichand Malineni’s action drama Jaat (2025), will also be seen in Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana – Part 1 (2026), where he plays Lord Hanuman alongside Ranbir Kapoor and Sai Pallavi.

Meanwhile, Aamir Khan was last seen in Sitaare Zameen Par, his home production and a spiritual sequel to his 2007 classic Taare Zameen Par.
