Sunjay Kapur’s wife, Priya Kapur, has turned to prayer for strength and protection. Days after what would have been Sunjay’s birthday, Priya and their younger son, Azarias, held a pooja at Sona Comstar, the Kapur family’s automotive business. Sharing glimpses of the ceremony on Instagram, she wrote, “Our prayer for protection, peace and prosperity… moving forward carrying your legacy with us.”

The post came just after Diwali, which Priya described as a quiet one spent in reflection. Karisma Kapoor, Sunjay’s ex-wife, also celebrated a low-key Diwali with their children, Samaira and Kiaan, who are now central to a massive Rs 30,000 crore inheritance battle.

Sunjay Kapur, the industrialist and former husband of actor Karisma Kapoor, died unexpectedly at 52 after reportedly having a heart attack.

The family is now locked in a legal dispute over Sunjay’s estate. Priya Kapur, represented by senior counsel Rajiv Nayar, has accused Karisma’s children of making a “bogus” challenge to the will. “The only grounds to contest a will are if the deceased was not of sound mind, was under coercion, or was incapable of executing it — none of which apply here,” Nayar told the court.

He further added, “I disclosed the will on July 30. It was read out to everyone, including the plaintiffs. Everybody knew that a will existed. Today, we are dealing with a non-existent challenge. It’s a bogus claim. No one has disputed Sunjay’s signature on the will.”

As per the documents submitted, Priya has inherited 75 percent of the estate, while Karisma’s children, as legal heirs, are entitled to the remaining 25 percent. However, Karisma’s lawyer, Senior Advocate Mahesh Jethmalani, argued that the will contained “glaring errors” that cast doubt on its authenticity.

He pointed out that the document repeatedly used feminine pronouns — referring to Sunjay as “she” and “her.” One clause read: “Signed and declared by Sunjay Kapur the testatrix above named as and for her last will.” Jethmalani remarked sharply, “The female form of testator is used… testator is now a she! This is an absurdity. It shows the audacity of presenting such a document in court. Unless Sunjay was of unsound mind or incapable of reading English, he could never have signed this. It says ‘her last will,’ ‘her presence’ — it’s replete with feminine pronouns.”
