Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty and her businessman husband Raj Kundra have recently been in the spotlight following allegations linked to a Rs 60 crore fraud case.
In the latest update, Shilpa Shetty’s advocate issued an official statement clarifying that the actress has no involvement in any such fraudulent activity.
Addressing the reports, the statement said, "On behalf of my client Mrs Shilpa Shetty Kundra I can confirm that there is no Income Tax “ Raid “ of whatsoever nature against my client . There is a routine verification by the income tax officials pertaining to follow up with my client Mrs Shilpa Shetty Kundra."
The statement further warned against misinformation, adding, "Whomsoever has mischievously claimed in public domain that these developments have anything to do with the alleged Economic Offence Wing case shall face legal consequences before the appropriate court of law. At the cost of repetition my client Mrs Shilpa Shetty Kundra states that there is no income tax “ RAID “ at her place."
Earlier on Thursday, sources claimed that income tax officials had searched Shilpa Shetty Kundra’s residence in connection with a case linked to her restaurant brand, Bastian. However, her lawyer firmly maintained that no searches were conducted and described the visit as a “routine verification.”
This development followed an action by the Bengaluru Police, who filed a case against Bastian Garden City, a Bengaluru outlet of the upscale restaurant chain, for allegedly operating beyond permitted hours. Shilpa Shetty is a co-owner of the Bastian brand, which was founded in 2014.
Meanwhile, Shilpa Shetty addressed the allegations through an Instagram post on Wednesday, issuing a strong denial. She stated, "We categorically deny the baseless.and motivated allegations being circulated. The issues sought to be raised are being given a criminal colour without any lawful basis. A quashing petition has already been filed before the high court and is pending adjudication. Having fully cooperated with the investigation, we are sanguine that justice will prevail and have complete faith in the law enforcement authorities and the judicial system of our country. We respectfully urge the media to exercise restraint as the matter is subjudice," she said.
The Rs 60 crore cheating case was registered based on a complaint filed by Mumbai-based businessman Deepak Kothari. He alleged that between 2015 and 2023, he invested nearly ₹60 crore in Best Deal TV Pvt Ltd, a company reportedly linked to the couple, after being assured returns and repayment.
