The Oh My God franchise is gearing up for another chapter, and if current reports are to be believed, it could be the most exciting one yet.

The much-loved series is said to be expanding with OMG 3, and the biggest talking point is the rumoured addition of Rani Mukerji opposite Akshay Kumar.

What has fans especially intrigued is that, despite both being towering figures of 1990s Hindi cinema, this would be the first time Akshay Kumar and Rani Mukerji share screen space in a feature film.

Insiders suggest that OMG 3 is being envisioned as far more than a routine sequel. A source close to the project told Pinkvilla, “This is easily one of the biggest castings in recent years. Oh My God is among Akshay Kumar’s most loved franchises, and it’s only getting bigger with Rani Mukerji joining the film. Her presence will add immense gravitas and freshness to the narrative.”

Akshay Kumar will reunite with director Amit Rai, who earned both critical praise and box office success with OMG 2.

The earlier films were known for tackling uncomfortable but necessary topics — from blind faith in the first instalment to sex education in Indian schools in the second.

The creative team reportedly hopes to raise the bar once more with OMG 3, both in terms of scope and content. The movie is presently in pre-production and is anticipated to begin production by the middle of 2026.

The makers are said to be acutely aware of the responsibility that comes with continuing such a respected franchise.

According to the same source, “Director Amit Rai has cracked a story that is bigger, more relevant, and hard-hitting than the previous instalments. Akshay was clear that OMG 3 had to scale up in every aspect, from story, emotions, to performances, and Rani coming on board has made the film even bigger.”

Since its inception, the Oh My God franchise has stood out for blending sharp social commentary with mainstream entertainment. Paresh Rawal’s atheist who takes God to court and Akshay Kumar’s memorable portrayal of Lord Krishna set the tone in the original film.

Years later, OMG 2, led by Pankaj Tripathi and Yami Gautam, struck a chord with audiences once again.
