As Border 2 continues to make waves at the Indian box office, one of its leading stars, Diljit Dosanjh, has revealed a touching story from his past that highlights his journey from humble beginnings to mainstream success. The patriotic war drama, directed by Anurag Singh and featuring a strong ensemble cast, has opened well with impressive numbers and positive audience reception.

In a recent social media video, Dosanjh shared that when the original Border released in 1997, he desperately wanted to watch the film but couldn’t — simply because he didn’t have the money for a ticket.

Diljit said, “I remember when the first Border came, so many people around me went to watch it, but I couldn’t because I didn’t have the money for it. My family also didn’t give me any money for it, but even they didn’t have much, so how could they spare it? I really wanted to watch the film then. Little did I know that I would get the chance to be in the film one day."

In Border 2, Dosanjh plays Flying Officer Nirmal Jit Singh Sekhon — a role rooted in real life and imbued with honour and legacy. Speaking about the character, he urged audiences to learn more about the real-life war hero’s story, underscoring the film’s tribute to bravery and sacrifice.

In the same video, he also spoke about his character in Border 2, which is based on Flying Officer Nirmal Jit Singh Sekhon. He said, “Nirmal Jit Singh Sekhon ji’s character, what a wonderful character! If you have never read about him, some people know about him, but you should definitely read and understand his life."

His heartfelt comments come as Border 2 enjoys a strong box office run, with early collections signalling it as one of the year’s major Bollywood successes.
