Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar spoke about a deeply personal and disturbing episode involving his daughter that happened a few months ago.

While speaking at the inauguration ceremony of Cyber Awareness Month 2025 at State Police Headquarters in Mumbai, Akshay Kumar revealed that a cyber criminal asked for nu*e pics of his daughter Nitara while she was playing an online video game.

“I want to tell you all a small incident which happened at my house a few months back."  He explained that while his daughter was playing a video, she received a message from an unknown stranger asking if she was male or female.

When she responded “female,” the next message crossed all limits: 'the stranger asked her to send nude pictures.'

Fortunately, his daughter immediately shut down the game and informed her mother. “This is how things begin,” Akshay Kumar stressed, calling it a chilling example of how cybercrime seeps into everyday spaces.

He said: "Meri daughter aik video game khel rahi thi and kuch videos hote hain jo aap aik unknown stranger ke saath khel rahe hote ho. Aap jab khel rahe hote toh wahan se kabhi message ata hai 'that was great, you are doing so great' - very courteous messages. But during the game, suddenly the person from where are you? She wrote 'Mumbai' and then messages were like 'well played' etc and courteous messages. Then there was another message 'are you male or female." And then he sends a message  can you send me a nude picture of yours.' It was my daughter she switched off the game and she told her mom."

He stressed on the fact that this is how it all begins and leads to much scarier things. "This is how everything begins. It was great that she went and spoke to my wife about it. This is how thigs begin, ye bhi cyber crime ka hi aik hissa hai. The kids get carried away and extortion hota hai and it spirals into other things. Many cases of suicide happen and this is how everything starts, he added.

Actor calls for cyber awareness in schools

Akshay Kumar didn’t stop at narrating the incident. The actor made a strong appeal to Maharashtra Chief Minister, urging that schools introduce a “cyber period” every week for students in classes 7 to 10.

“This crime is becoming bigger than street crime. It is very important to stop this,” Akshay Kumar said, highlighting how predators increasingly target minors online.

Growing concern around cybercrime against children

The event has rekindled discussions about online safety for children in India. With more kids using the internet for education and entertainment, there has been a consistent increase in incidents of harassment, exploitation, and grooming.

Akshay Kumar has two children, elder son Aarav and a 13 year-old daughter Nitara.
