Popular content creator and actor Bhuvan Bam has recently found himself at the centre of controversy after a deepfake video of him went viral on social media. The video falsely depicted Bhuvan urging people to invest in tennis through a certain bookie's predictions. Alarmed by the misleading and defamatory nature of the video, Bhuvan took swift action, filing a formal complaint at the Oshiwara police station in Mumbai.

Addressing the issue publicly, Bhuvan Bam cautioned his fans and followers, emphasizing the importance of vigilance in the face of such deceitful content. "I want to alert all my fans and followers about a deepfake video of me that is making rounds on social media. This video is completely fake and misguided, encouraging people to invest in tennis through predictions by a certain bookie. My team has already filed a complaint with the Oshiwara police station, and they are investigating the matter," Bhuvan stated.

Bhuvan further urged everyone to avoid falling prey to such scams. "I humbly request everyone not to fall for this video. Please stay safe and avoid making any investments that might lead to trouble or financial loss. It’s crucial to be vigilant and not get trapped by these deceitful baits," he added.

Bhuvan Bam is not the first Indian celebrity to have been targeted by deepfake technology. Several other actors, including Radhmika Mandanna, Alia Bhatt, and Katrina Kaif, have also expressed concerns after their deepfake videos surfaced online. Earlier this year, a video of Ranveer Singh also made headlines when a deepfake of him was seen criticizing the government. The viral clip showed Singh urging people to vote for "Nayay (justice)" in the ongoing Lok Sabha elections. However, it was later clarified that the video was morphed and edited.

Before Ranveer, another deepfake video of Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan had caused a stir. The video falsely portrayed Aamir promoting a political party, leading to public outrage. The Mumbai police registered an FIR against an unnamed person after the video caught widespread attention. Aamir Khan’s spokesperson subsequently issued a statement clarifying the video’s inauthenticity. "We want to clarify that Mr. Aamir Khan has never endorsed any political party throughout his 35-year career. He has dedicated his efforts to raising awareness through Election Commission public awareness campaigns for many past elections," the spokesperson said.

Bhuvan Bam's quick response to the deepfake incident underscores the importance of taking immediate action to address and mitigate the potential damage caused by such misleading content. His call for increased vigilance among fans and followers is a crucial reminder of the pervasive nature of digital misinformation and the need for collective awareness to safeguard against its impacts.
