Himesh Reshammiya is back in action, and this time, he’s bringing the ultimate ’80s Bollywood masala vibe to the forefront with Badass Ravi Kumar. Reprising his iconic role from the 2014 period thriller The Xposé, Himesh introduces audiences to a cinematic universe steeped in nostalgia, complete with love triangles, over-the-top action, memorable dialogue, and foot-tapping music.
Drawing inspiration from classic Bollywood potboilers, Badass Ravi Kumar features a love triangle that’s both intriguing and dramatic. Hansika Motwani, Himesh’s co-star from his 2007 debut Aap Ka Surroor, plays one romantic interest, while Kirti Kulhari dons a retro vamp persona reminiscent of Simi Garewal in Karz. Kirti’s character adds a touch of intrigue, persuading Ravi Kumar to steal a closely guarded necklace, setting the stage for high-octane drama.
True to his roots, Himesh’s music takes centerstage. With a background score inspired by RD Burman and other ’80s legends, the film features several songs sung by Himesh himself. Tracks like Tandoori Days—a fresh spin on his hit Tandoori Nights—promise to be chart-toppers.
Himesh’s Ravi Kumar takes action sequences to an entirely new level. In a nod to Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Animal (2023), the film amps up the violence, replacing Ranbir Kapoor’s iconic axe with a chainsaw. The result? Jaw-dropping action that’s as gritty as it is stylised, with Ravi Kumar taking on villains in a way only he can.
No masala entertainer is complete without memorable one-liners, and Badass Ravi Kumar delivers in spades. Penned by Bunty Rathore, the dialogues like “Tere shareer mein itna khoon nahi hoga, jitna Ravi Kumar ek baar mein moot data hai,” “Jinn toofanon mein tum jaiso ke khopde udd jaya karte hain, hum unhi toofanon mein apne kapde sukhaya karte hain,” and “Kundali mein shani, ghee ke sath honey, aur Ravi Kumar ke sath dushmani sehat ke liye hanikarak ho sakti hai” are pure gold!
Adding to the entertainment quotient are Bollywood veterans Johnny Lever and Sanjay Mishra, alongside Prabhu Deva. Together, they bring humour and charm to this action-packed saga.
Produced under the banner of Himesh Reshammiya Melodies, Badass Ravi Kumar is poised to be a wild, nostalgic ride through the best elements of ’80s Bollywood. If the trailer is anything to go by, fans are in for a treat as Himesh Reshammiya redefines larger-than-life storytelling with his signature flair.
