Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan found himself in the middle of a social media storm following a cryptic post on X (formerly Twitter), shared just hours after the terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam.

In the early hours of Wednesday, Big B posted a tweet that read, “T 5356 -”

With no accompanying message or context, the tweet left many of his followers confused, and others, furious. While some fans attempted to decode the post or brushed it off as another of his routine tweet-numbering styles, many criticised the timing and his silence on a national tragedy.

Twitter users urged the veteran actor to speak out about the devastating attack that claimed the lives of 26 people, mostly tourists, in Pahalgam. "ख़ामोशी बहुत कुछ कहती है अमित जी (Silence speaks volumes, Amit Ji), wrote one follower. “Kashmir mein jo hua uspar ek post nahi?” (‘Not even one post about what happened in Kashmir?’), commented another.

“Sir you are the senior most actor from the film fraternity yet not a word of condemnation from you on the Pahalgam terrorist attack?” wrote a fan. “You should have posted a clear and unambiguous post Sir. #PahalgamTerroristAttack #pahalgamattack,” remarked another.

“Pahalgam incident pe kuch boliye” (‘Say something about the Pahalgam incident’), demanded another follower.

Several Bollywood celebrities issued strong statements condemning the violence and offering prayers for the victims. Akshay Kumar posted, “Horrified to know of the terror attack on tourists in Pahalgam. Sheer evil to kill innocent people like this. Prayers for their families.”

Sonu Sood wrote, “Strongly condemn the cowardly terrorist attack on innocent tourists in Kashmir’s #Pahalgam. Terrorism should not have any place in a civilized world and this dastardly act is unacceptable. My deepest condolences to the families who lost their dear ones and prayers for early recovery of those who are injured. Om Sai ram.”

Raveena Tandon expressed, “Om Shanti. condolences. Shocked and angry. No words to express the anguish. Prayers and strength to the victims. Time we all let go of petty in-house fighting, UNITE and realise the true enemy.”
