The Japanese entertainment industry is reeling after the arrest of agency president Hiroshi Torimaru, accused of sexually assaulting an underage idol more than a dozen times. Authorities say the abuse began when the girl was just 15.
Allegations of Repeated Assaults
Police confirmed that Hiroshi, 39, allegedly summoned the idol to a rented room under the pretext of “discussions” in April 2021. What followed, investigators say, were multiple instances of sexual assault at Tokyo hotels between 2021 and 2022, when the victim was aged 16 and 17.
The young idol, whose identity remains protected, broke her silence in March 2025. “I loved being an idol and wanted to keep going,” she told police, “but I hated being treated that way. It left me emotionally drained.”
Hiroshi Denies Abuse of Power
During questioning, Hiroshi admitted to sexual contact but rejected the charges. He reportedly told investigators, “I intended it as a serious relationship. I never abused my position.” Authorities, however, maintain that his role as agency president created a clear imbalance of power.
Agency Issues Apology
Following his arrest, GO little by little released an official statement acknowledging the allegations.
“After speaking with multiple parties involved, it has become clear that behavior potentially amounting to acts against a minor did occur. The fact that the young woman has been hurt is undeniable. We extend our sincere apologies to her and her family. We take this matter very seriously and will strengthen both our management system and compliance policies moving forward.”
The agency also apologized for the “concern and distress” caused, promising stricter oversight in the future.
Industry Fallout
The case has once again sparked outrage over the treatment of idols in Japan, where young performers often face immense pressure and, at times, exploitation. The investigation is ongoing, with police expected to release more details in the coming weeks.
