Vijayta Pandit on sister Sandhya's death: She was murdered, found her skeleton, scattered bones in different places

In a recent interview with Lehren Retro, actress Vijayta Pandit has finally broken her silence on the tragedy surrounding her sister, Sandhya Pandit’s, death. Sandhya, the sister of music composers Jatin and Lalit Pandit and yesteryear actresses Vijayta and Sulakshana Pandit, went missing in 2012. Sandhya's disappearance shook the family, and their worst fears were confirmed when her skeleton was discovered nearly a month later. The case took a complex turn as accusations and legal proceedings followed, with Sandhya’s son, Raghuveer Singh, becoming a key figure in the investigation.

Vijayta opened up about the emotional rollercoaster her family has endured over the years. In the interview, she revealed the shocking fact that their sister, Sulakshana Pandit, still does not know that Sandhya has passed away. Despite over a decade having passed since Sandhya’s death, Sulakshana continues to believe that their sister is alive. Vijayta admitted that she has never told Sulakshana about Sandhya’s murder out of fear for her health. "And you won’t believe it, Sulakshana ji, even till today, has no idea that our sister is no more," Vijayta shared in the interview. "Can you believe this? This is the first time I am saying this. I never told her because if she finds out, she will die that very moment."

The gravity of the situation became evident as Vijayta explained how she has maintained the facade for Sulakshana all these years. She continues to tell Sulakshana that Sandhya is living in Indore, a city where the two supposedly keep in touch. "I keep telling her that our sister is fine, she lives in Indore, and that she calls me too," Vijayta revealed. She added that Sulakshana often sends her love and regards to Sandhya, asking Vijayta to relay the messages, unaware of the tragic truth.

The Pandit family’s ordeal began when Sandhya went missing in 2012. Vijayta described the initial shock and disbelief that gripped the family. "She (Sandhya) was murdered. We never thought that all of a sudden something like this could happen," Vijayta stated. Sandhya, who was seemingly happy in her marriage, disappeared under mysterious circumstances. "She was quite happy in her marriage… I don’t know what happened," Vijayta confessed, reflecting on the family’s attempts to piece together what led to Sandhya’s death. "We never even found her, we found her skeleton."

The search for Sandhya was a long and painful process for the Pandit family. "First her family said she has gone missing, so we used to go, me and my brothers Lalit and Jatin, to look for her everywhere," Vijayta recalled. The family desperately scoured for clues, holding onto hope that Sandhya would be found alive. However, after an extended period, their worst fears were realized. "After a long time, they found her bones scattered in different places. It was a very big thing."

The gruesome discovery of Sandhya’s remains brought not only grief but also questions of justice. In 2021, Raghuveer Singh, Sandhya’s son, was acquitted of all charges related to her murder. According to a report by The Indian Express, the Thane sessions court concluded that the prosecution had failed to establish any evidence linking Raghuveer to the crime. The only facts the court could confirm were that Raghuveer had an alcohol addiction and shared a hostile relationship with his mother, Sandhya. The court noted that there was no conclusive evidence to support the charges of murder, robbery, or destruction of evidence, leading to Raghuveer’s acquittal.

The case against Raghuveer had been primarily built on suspicion, with the Mumbai Police Crime Branch investigating his potential involvement in his mother's murder. However, without sufficient evidence, Raghuveer was cleared of all charges, and the family was left without answers regarding Sandhya's tragic fate.

Despite the legal resolution, the emotional wounds remain fresh for Vijayta and her family. "I swear on God, I have to keep up with the act even to this day," Vijayta said.
