Netflix and Dharma Productions have unveiled the trailer of their upcoming film Aap Jaisa Koi, starring R. Madhavan and Fatima Sana Shaikh in lead roles.
Sharing the trailer on Instagram, the makers offered audiences a glimpse into a tender, understated love story that sets itself apart from conventional romance narratives.
Karan Johar, one of the producers of the show, shared the trailer and wrote in the caption, "It’s a date. And Madhavan and Fatima are your perfect match! Watch Aap Jaisa Koi, out 11 July, only on Netflix."
The film chronicles the journey of 42-year-old Shrirenu Tripathi, played by R. Madhavan, who is a man who fits in with the background of daily life. He is reserved, caught up in routine, and secretly longs for love but is unsure of how to find it.
When he meets Madhu Bose (Fatima Sana Shaikh), a self-assured, independent woman who embraces life unapologetically on her own terms, his entire world starts to change.
The story, which is set in Kolkata and Jamshedpur, delicately examines a rare theme in film: barabari wala pyaar, or love based on equality. As their lives converge, the movie explores deeper themes and questions conventional wisdom regarding emotional sensitivity, masculinity, and the changing definition of friendship in addition to igniting a distinctive romance.

As quoted by News18, R Madhavan spoke about his role in the film and said, “Aap Jaisa Koi is unlike any love story I’ve done before — it’s quiet, awkward, and deeply human. Shrirenu is one of the most complex characters I’ve played… It’s patient, gentle, and deeply affecting. I was drawn to how it speaks to all the people who’ve felt overlooked in life or love."
The film is set to premiere on Netflix on July 11. It is directed by Vivek Soni and produced by Karan Johar, Adar Poonawalla, Apoorva Mehta, and Somen Mishra.
