Aamir Khan is finally moving forward with his much-anticipated adaptation of the Mahabharat. Having often spoken about the epic's profound significance and the immense responsibility it carries, the actor is now ready to begin production on what is expected to be one of his most ambitious projects yet.
In an interview with Screen, Aamir Khan revealed that Mahabharat's production will begin in August.
“Well, I’m starting work on it in the month of August. It will be a series of films. It’ll be back to back. Because you can’t tell the Mahabharat in just one film. And you know, the Mahabharat is very dangerous. It’s again a story which is in my blood. No one can do anything about it. I need to tell it. So I’m starting work on it," he added.
“I don’t plan to take any known faces in the film. For me, the characters are the stars. I want unknown faces. There’ll be entirely new cast for it, is what I’m thinking."
Aamir Khan's Mahabharat is looking to be one of the most anticipated and ambitious projects in Indian cinema, with filming set to begin next month and a new ensemble cast taking on iconic roles.
Aamir has long referred to the Mahabharat as his ideal project, one that he has been cultivating for many years. The film has been the subject of numerous rumours and conjectures over the years, but they have all eventually subsided—until now. At the ABP Live-hosted India@2047 Summit, the actor-producer recently rekindled enthusiasm by reaffirming his strong dedication to the project and describing the adaptation as a story that is still very dear to his heart.
This comes after Aamir's most recent film, Sitaare Zameen Par, which debuted in theatres on June 20, 2025, was a box office success. With over Rs 150 crore made in India alone, the movie proved to be a box office success.

Now, with Mahabharat finally moving into production, expectations are sky-high. Blending mythological grandeur with Aamir’s cinematic vision, the project is poised to become a landmark moment in Indian storytelling.
