Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan recently opened up about his upcoming film, Sitaare Zameen Par, and the significant impact his children, Ira and Junaid Khan, had on his decision to continue acting.
In a conversation with Rhea Chakraborty on her YouTube podcast Chapter 2, the Ghajini star shared insights into his thoughts of quitting the film industry after the disappointing performance of his last movie, Laal Singh Chaddha.
Following the underperformance of Laal Singh Chaddha, where Aamir starred alongside Kareena Kapoor, the 59-year-old actor took full responsibility for the film’s failure. He acknowledged his mistakes but chose to focus on the positive aspects, celebrating his team's hard work with a party.
This phase also led him to reconsider his future in acting, with thoughts of stepping away from the industry altogether. However, his children, Ira and Junaid, played a crucial role in changing his mind.
Aamir revealed that he had initially planned to inform Sitaare Zameen Par director R.S. Prasanna about his decision to quit films. However, after discussing it with his children, he reconsidered. Ira even created a plan on a whiteboard, emphasizing that he didn’t need to leave acting entirely but could instead find a balance between his career and personal life.
Aamir said, “Jab maine Sitaare Zameen Par shuru ki toh ki us mood mein kiya ki koi baat nahi…aur Sitaare abhi complete ho gayi hai. Sitaare mein bohat mazaa aaya kaam karke. Bahot kamaal ki film hai (Sitaare Zameen Par is now complete. I loved working on the film. It’s a great movie).”
Junaid’s words also resonated deeply with Aamir, as he urged his father not to make the mistake of quitting, likening Aamir's indecision to that of a "pendulum."
Reflecting on Sitaare Zameen Par, Aamir described the film as a "great project" that brought renewed energy and positivity into his life. He mentioned that the film is now complete and expressed his pride and satisfaction with the work.
Sitare Zameen Par marks a reunion between Aamir and Darsheel Safary, who first collaborated in the 2007 hit Taare Zameen Par.
The film also stars Genelia D'Souza and promises to be a significant comeback for Aamir Khan, bringing him back into the spotlight with fresh enthusiasm.
