Prime Minister Narendra Modi revealed that India sent a special envoy to Israel amid its war with the Hamas terror group, in an attempt to stop the bombings in Gaza during the holy month of Ramadan.
In an interview with India Today, PM Modi highlighted the effort undertaken by India to get Israel to not carry out bombings during Ramadan.
"It was the month of Ramadan. So, I sent my special envoy to Israel and asked him to convey and explain to the Prime Minister (Benjamin Netanyahu) that at least do not carry out bombings in Gaza during Ramadan. They (Israel) made every effort to follow it but in the end, there was a fight for two-three days," the Prime Minister said.
"Here, you keep on cornering me on the Muslims issue but, I didn't publicise it," Modi said. His remarks came as opposition parties have been accusing him of communal politics during his Lok Sabha campaigning.

The BJP leader, in the interview, also said that some other countries also tried to put an end to the Israel-Hamas war and stated that they may have got the results too. "I also tried," he added.
Modi also said that there was a fashion earlier that if a leader goes to Israel, a visit to Palestine was a must. But, he added, he refused to do that.
The conflict in Gaza escalated after the Hamas terror group attacked Israel on October 7, when about 2,500 terrorists breached the border into Israel from the Gaza Strip, leading to casualties and the seizure of hostages.
A few days back, Modi while speaking on Russia-Ukraine conflict in another interaction, had recalled the time he told Russian President Vladimir Putin that today's era is not of war.
Modi had said that he had the guts to look into the eyes of Putin and tell him that "this is not the time for war". He asserted that the country has maintained an independent stand on the ongoing global conflicts.
